Porcelain vs Marble

Porcelanosa Kala-White Polished Porcelain

For ages, the luxury of marble has been the featured design element in most bath and kitchen remodeling.  Subsequently, technological advances in ceramic product production (engineered stone) have re-captured the beauty of marble. For example, Porcelanosa’s Kala-White Polished Porcelain large tiles, technically known as GPTP (Gauged Porcelain Tile Panels/Slabs), embellish the bathroom. Moreover, the unique and timeless GPTP tiles decorate the shower, walls, and floors. Further, the low maintenance, easy-to-clean porcelain tiles create the beauty of natural marble.

Current Trends in Stone & Tile

Engineered and Sintered stone stands up to the demands of daily life; we see these materials requested beyond kitchens and bathrooms.  As example used in hallways, foyers, flooring, and even decorative wall décor in bedrooms, living rooms and fireplace surrounds.” Gurri President Sami Kelmendi

Sami continues, “Revolutionary technology advances in surface material production allow for thinner thickness, hence lighter, easier installation on flat walls. For instance, the walls use high gloss tiles, a thicker gauge tile with a natural finish embellishes the floors.”

Most importantly, features like the bathroom’s sleek-looking frameless shower’s low-iron glass enhance the contemporary remodel design. Further embellishing the design aesthetic is an Artelinea Firenze 1962 floating vanity, Grohe showerhead, faucets, and Rohl bathroom accessories. Laticret HydroBan® invisible Linear shower drain rounds out the aesthetic. A stainless steel 30″ Fisher & Paykel range and microwave stand out amongst the all-white kitchen cabinets and porcelain walls, floors.

Design Aesthetic Creates a Dramatic Entrance

Oak Wood floors complement egg-shell white walls

Certainly, the dark oak wood floors create a drama from the entrance, complementing the Benjamin-More egg-shell white walls. From Listone Giordano, the  Italian imported Listone Oak Michelangelo Testa Di Moro flooring has a NaturePlus2 finish. Pocket doors with Emtek mortise hardware disappear when closed. The bedroom takes advantage of minimal space with elegant appointed chrome Arnsberg Sandro sconces on the accent wall. Additionally, the ceiling fixture fan combo is also from Arnsberg. Above all, the upholstered headboard gives texture to the Benjamin-More deep gray painted accent wall creating a comfortable retreat.

Bigger tiles produce fewer joints, giving spaces a more unified and spacious design while creating a unique design aesthetic. Consequently, the idea of only small-format tiles for small bathrooms or kitchens is over. Meanwhile, thanks to innovative manufacturers like Porcelanosa, Cosentino, Neolith, and Lapitec, who have developed these next-generation surface materials.

Engineered and sintered stone selections can have a similar appearance to natural stone but are nonporous and unaffected by UV rays.  Besides maintenance-free and come in a variety of colors, sizes, and thickness–it opens the door to unlimited options. Above all, it’s important to use experienced fabricators and installers who have an understanding of these new surface materials,” states Kelmendi.
